about the artist

Born in Wisconsin, Joel Gwidt started drawing at a young age. His love for drawing led him to the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point where he earned his BFA with an emphasis in Painting and an Art History Minor.
With his love for Jazz, he combined the teachings of the Ashcan school with urban art while adding an exaggerated perspective to create a distinct Jazz Paintings and overall body of work.
He has shown at many art shows and venues throughout Wisconsin and, shortly after graduating, decided to move to Kansas City, MO. There he honed his skills in the style he has developed while also establishing himself as a strong Portrait Painter.
While in Kansas City, Joel has shown throughout the KC Metro area while also having work displayed both nationally and internationally. He recently moved to Minneapolis and is starting to show his work throughout the Twin Cities.
Joel also has a love for teaching children. After working as a lead Preschool teacher for 8 years, Joel decided to open his own business, Playful Palette, teaching art classes for children and adults.
